Döner, oh Döner

A Poetry Comic by Abigail Strauss

Döner, oh döner, wherefore art thou döner?

Away from you I feel lost, a loner

Wherefore have you gone oh döner?!

Just memories left of crunchy bread,

Thin sliced lamb, tomatoes red

Did I imagine you in my head?

But nothing can conjure the tang

Of savory sauces, a hunger pang

Holding döner, through Ausgang

A German dish, so unique. Satisfying!

Thinking of you, I find myself crying

“To eat you again, I’ll never stop trying!”

My belly full, rating 12 stars out of ten

I lean back in my chair, thinking of when

I get to go back, and eat my döner again!

Personal Note:

I think this was my favorite blog post so far. Being able to write and draw such a fun comic, coming up with a silly poem, and getting to talk about my favorite german food was an amazing grouping. Speaking of favorite german foods, we need to talk about döner. At first glance, it looks like a normal gyro… but it’s far from it. The bread has a crispy outside, and almost a sweet taste. The lamb is sliced as thin as paper, making sure it is cooked fully. The vegetables are so refreshing and almost have a crunch. There are usually three types of sauce, spicy, garlic, and herb. All of these amazing foods combine to make pure DELICIOUSNESS! The first time I bit into a döner I didn’t understand how I had survived life before it.
