The Places I’ve Tasted: Part III
A Memoir on the Foods I’ve Tried
By Abigail Strauss
Hello again! I am here! I’ve come back, can’t you see?
For the time has come to begin with Part 3.
Though my trip is finished, there are more places to show.
Whose turn is it? It’s New Zealand’s! Come on, have a go!
With kiwis and beaches, and forests of green,
With the most beautiful views I have ever seen.
Mānuka honey is the topic of this verse.
It tastes great and heals even the most powerful curse.
Japan is up next, filled with all cutesy things,
From sweet treats, to keychains, to vending machines.
Dango’s delicious—colors green, pink, and white.
Sweet and chewy, I wish I could eat it all night.
Singapore might be a little too hot,
But some sugarcane juice really hits the spot.
The stalks get squeezed, and what do they produce?
A drink cool and fresh—the best kind of juice.
Our next country is far—until then, see ya!
For the place that you come to is none other than Austria!
Schnitzel is great: breaded, fried, served, and eaten.
Served with lemon and chips, it just can’t be beaten.
Czechia is last on our list for today,
With beautiful buildings that will blow you away.
Chimney cakes are delicious and cooked on a spit,
Rolled in sugar and cinnamon, certainly lit.
And now this great poem must come to a close,
But I do hope you like the foods that I chose.
For I have experienced a world full of food,
And I’d eat it all again, if only I could.
Personal Note:
It’s been a while since we last posted, but here we are now! Australian life so far has been great, and is coming along just fine. Even though we’ve finished our trip, I still feel like I’m in the middle of it. This blog post was (as always) fun to write, especially because I got to look back at our trip again.
